The DESERTEC Foundation is intended to serve as a hub for realizing the DESERTEC Concept. It will also work for creating a global alliance to ensure security of energy supplies, to promote economic development, and to stabilize the world’s climate.
We want to act as “awareness raiser”, “catalyst” and “barrier remover” to pave the way for DESERTEC developments. One of the most useful things we can do is to work with national governments and political bodies like the EU and similar bodies all over the world, to create the right framework of laws and regulations, and to ensure that there is a good framework of incentives for DESERTEC developments.
Since the DESERTEC Concept can serve as key part of any scenario for sustainable development in a world with 10 billion people, it will be of interest to a wide range of stakeholders. An important function of the DESERTEC Foundation will be to serve as a think tank and forum for the exchange of ideas and for discussion of relevant issues.
The DESERTEC Foundation will be a source of knowledge and expertise about all matters relating to the DESERTEC Concept including political, social, industrial, legal, and regulatory aspects.
Our partners and supporters make an important contribution to the implementation of the DESERTEC concept, and thus the creation of sustainable living conditions for a growing world population.
Initiated by the Non-Profit-Organisation DESERTEC Foundation, which was founded in 2008 to realise the DESERTEC Concept worldwide, and the Munich Re, the world’s leading reinsurance company, the Dii is a unique industry initiative which was launched as ‘DESERTEC Industrial Initiative’ in July 2009.
