The DESERTEC Foundation (DF) will be a source of knowledge and expertise about all matters relating to the DESERTEC Concept including political, social, industrial, legal, and regulatory aspects. We also encourage any research and development in any of these fields to better the DESERTEC concept.

The DF may serve as an intermediary and advisor for parties involved in DESERTEC projects. The DF will bring together and provide advice for commercial organizations and national governments that wish to establish DESERTEC projects.

The DF will define standards for environmental protection and social responsibility in the execution of DESERTEC projects. It will require adherence to those standards amongst organizations that are and are not affiliated to the DF.

National governments may benefit from the knowledge and expertise of the DF. The governments of sun-belt countries may also see the potential benefits of dealing with companies that have agreed to adhere to the DF standards, as described above.

To achieve these goals and to fulfill these several tasks, the DF will need financial support. We believe that when the DF is properly established it will attract funds from stakeholders and investors, who have an interest in the realization of the DESERTEC Concept. This includes companies involved in the development of technology, component production, and those with a high demand for clean energy. This will also attract companies and national governments who want to optimize their own solar resources and secure new sources of clean energy.
