DESERTEC – Clean energy for a world with 10 billion people

The people of ancient Egypt appreciated the importance of the sun for all life on Earth. Today, natural sciences and technology have advanced to such a degree that we are in a position to apply this insight from one of the greatest ancient civilizations by using solar energy to help us meet global challenges such as climate change, energy security, water scarcity and the dramatic increase in our world’s population. The talk will explain how the DESERTEC Concept envisions an all-encompassing approach to solving these issues through harnessing the energy of the sun in the deserts of our world.

Chilean International Renewable Energy Congress

Chile’s energy demands are expected to increase considerably, possibly doubling over the next 10 years. Increasing energy needs – especially in the Chilean mining sector – have encouraged wide public support to look beyond large-scale hydro projects to Non-Conventional Renewable Energy (NCRE). The Chilean government is bringing together power producers, ministers, and energy officials in order to take advantage of the country’s vast renewable resources to realize up to 8GW of NCRE installations by 2020.
