Colloqium at Technical University Aachen

Humankind is expected to reach 10 billion, however 5 billion have already overdrawn its capacity. A crucial factor for a sustainable and enduring supply system is more energy. At the same time fossil energy has to be taken off the market, since they act like chemical weapons against natural living conditions of future generations. Renewable energies are clean, safe, harmless and widely available. The potential of solar energy in deserts alone offers more than the 100-fold of the present energy demand. Together with all other renewable energies, we could build a global energy supply without hazardous side effects. Technologies are available, but the self-organization of humankind in form of nation-states blocks the solution for the global climate problem. The DESERTEC concept can offer a way out.
