The industry initiative Dii, together with the DESERTEC Foundation and the DESERTEC University Network launch the DESERTEC Thesis Award this year. The winners will receive their award at Dii’s Annual Conference in November in Cairo.
The aim of the award is to recognize outstanding research papers and to encourage more students to conduct research on the generation of renewable energy in the deserts of the Middle East and North Africa.
Students or young academics from the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, who are/have been working within the framework of a university or research center, are eligible for the award. The paper should be related to a subject that is relevant for the implementation of the DESERTEC vision. Papers related to power generation from sun and wind energy in the deserts, electricity transmission over long distances or renewable energy project financing are eligible for the award. Papers dealing with the socio-economic effects of the implementation of the DESERTEC Vision in producing countries are also relevant.
The top 3 papers will be selected by a jury of desert power experts and will enjoy the opportunity to present their work on Dii’s annual conference in November in Cairo. They will additionally receive free travel to, and accommodation during, the event. The 10 best papers will receive a free pass to the conference and will be published on the Dii and DESERTEC Foundation websites.
The application deadline is 16th September 2011.
